About Ultrasounds: GE Voluson S8

Tue Jun 06 2023

The GE Voluson S8 ultrasound is one of the mid-tier women’s health ultrasounds that the manufacturer engineers. That being said, considering that GE is the leader in women’s healthcare imaging, the Voluson S8 is capable of producing images that far exceed most of the competition from Philips, Mindray, Samsung and the others.

The Voluson ultrasound series has three tiers of systems: the “P” series, the “S” series, and the “E” series; the “P” systems being the most economical and basic units, and the “E” series being the highest tier.

The S8 produces high quality images for women’s health exams; including but not limited to 2D OB-GYN, breast, 3D/4D fetal imaging, follicle counts, and finally - the most advanced technological exam - HDLive - or live 3D.

Many GE probes are interchangeable, and can be used on more than one system. GE probes ending in “RS” (identifiable by the smaller connectors than the standard full-sized systems), are generally compatible with the Voluson S8. For example, the RAB2-5-RS 3D/4D curved array probe can be used on a Voluson I, Voluson S8, Voluson P8, and Voluson E laptop unit.

For many systems, in order to generate a high quality image, the unit needs to be a bit bulkier, heavier, or delicate. The Voluson S8, however, is slim, sleek, and weights around 150 lbs - significantly lighter than its sister unit - the Voluson E6 or Voluson E8. Many private clinics, smaller hospitals, and imaging centers that require the system move from room to room covet this system.

Ultrasound Safety:

There is always the concern, particularly when it comes to medical equipment, regarding the safety of the devices and the potential side effects that occur as a result of employing these machines.

It is important to know that ultrasound machines are known to be completely harmless. They function through the utilization of sound waves emitting from the probe or transducer. These sound waves are then translated into images by the ultrasound machine or system. There is no need to fear when using ultrasound machines – it is a quick, easy and efficient way to diagnose and help determine a patient’s ails.
