Purchasing an ultrasound system could prove to be challenging for a variety of reasons. Cost, brand name / reputation, and contemplating the best system for the types of exams that you’ll be conducting. Looking to purchase an ultrasound machine on a budget can be quite daunting.
The Acuson Cypress Plus is a speciality ultrasound system engineered specifically for cardiac and vascular studies. Although it can conduct abdominal and other “general” studies, it certainly is not designed to be employed for OB-GYN exams.
Popular Imaging Applications:
Cardiac:
Cardiac imaging can be vague. The Cypress employs the 3V2c sector array ultrasound probe transducer for standard adult cardiac imaging, transcranial doppler imaging, echoes, and stress tests.
The Cypress also features a highly coveted feature: TEE, or transesophageal imaging. Generally speaking, a TEE probe alone for a GE system, Siemens system, or Philips system, may cost upward of $12,500. The Cypress TEE probe costs a fraction of the price.
Finally, the Acuson Cypress may be employed for pediatric cardiac imaging, with the 7V3c probe. The fact that this system is capable of running nearly all facets of cardiac imaging, with a starting cost of $4500, makes this system very desirable.
Vascular:
Even though the Cypress is only compatible with one vascular probe, the 7L3, its software permits a variety of uses for the probe.
The Cypress can be used for carotid, peripheral vascular, MSK, small parts, vascular, color doppler, and more. For other parts, like the hips, pelvis, and shoulders, the 4C1 curved array probe is frequently employed.
Support and Parts:
Although the Cypress is no longer available brand new from the manufacturer, parts and service are still readily available. Many physicians and sonographers may experience concern about the lack of service from the manufacturer. In reality, however, most service done to ultrasound equipment on the market is done via authorized dealers and companies.
Regardless, the service and support for the Cypress Plus is available, either through AME or another company, is available all the time. The Cypress Plus can be employed and maintained for many years to come, at a very economical price.
There is always the concern, particularly when it comes to medical equipment, regarding the safety of the devices and the potential side effects that occur as a result of employing these machines.
