About Ultrasounds: Philips Clearvue 650

Wed Mar 01 2023

For the longest time, the Philips ultrasound systems have had the reputation for being the leaders in cardiovascular imaging. Since then, they’ve attempted to become more diverse, breaking in women’s healthcare and general radiology.

The Clearvue ultrasound series is one of Philips’ attempts to break into the women’s healthcare market. Manufacturing a sleek, elegant, and economical system specializing in OB-GYN imaging (but also capable of basic cardiac and vascular exams), the Clearvue 650 is one of the premier systems in the Clearvue family.

Clearvue 650 Women's Health Ultrasound

OB-GYN Imaging

The Clearvue 650 very popular for it’s high resolution, speedy imaging processing, and user-friendly controls. Although this system isn’t compatible with as many varieties of transducers as the other Philips units (like the HD 15, the IU22, IE33, Affinity or Epiq series), sometimes, less is more. The C5-2 curved probe is highly coveted and provides excellent imaging. The C9-4v vaginal probe is also very high in demand, and offers high quality 2D gynecological, urological and endovaginal imaging.

3D/4D Imaging

Even though the Philips has a little ways to go before matching the quality of GE’s or Samsung’s 3D/4D imaging capabilities. The Clearvue 650 employs the V6-2 curved probe for 3D/4D abdominal imaging, and the 3D9-3v vaginal transducer for 3D /4D gynecological imaging.

Part of what makes this system so attractive, despite behind a half-step behind GE and Samsung, is it’s competitive pricing. This, coupled with the fact that most systems available on the market are less than ten years old, make the Clearvue highly coveted in globally.

Clearvue Probe Options

Vascular and Cardiac

The Clearvue 650 employs the L12-4 transducer for vascular imaging. This probe, due to the fact that breast imaging and other forms of small parts imaging is a standard option as part of the women’s healthcare package, is very popular. Unfortunately, it is also very difficult to source, and not many refurbished probes are available on the market.

Finally, the Clearvue 650 is compatible with the S4-1 sector array ultrasound probe. This probe is employed for basic cardiac and stress echo imaging.

Other Clearvue Systems:

The Clearvue family is fairly extensive, and consists of four different types of models. The Clearvue 350 is the most basic, and most economical system. The 550 proceeds it, with slightly higher quality imaging, and then the 650 takes the processing, quality, and reliability to the next level. Finally, the 850 is the top of the line unit - a rare, expensive ultrasound unit that offers the most “bells and whistles” relative to the rest of the family.

Ultrasound Safety:

There is always the concern, particularly when it comes to medical equipment, regarding the safety of the devices and the potential side effects that occur as a result of employing these machines.

It is important to know that ultrasound machines are known to be completely harmless. They function through the utilization of sound waves emitting from the probe or transducer. These sound waves are then translated into images by the ultrasound machine or system. There is no need to fear when using ultrasound machines – it is a quick, easy and efficient way to diagnose and help determine a patient’s ails.
